What is work done?

It is the product of the force in the distance moved in the direction of the force.

scenario 1: No work is done

The direction of the 100N applied force is upwards, however there is no up or down motion, the only movement is perpendicular to the force, therefore there is no work done.

scenario 2: Work done

The direction of the 100N applied force is upwards, stickman climbed 3m up the cliff, distanced moved is parallel to the force, therefore there is work done of 300 J.

scenario 3: Work done

The direction of the 100N applied force is upwards, stickman walked 3m up the cliff, 3m distanced moved is parallel to the force, therefore there is work done of 300 J.

scenario 4: Work done

80N force is applied by stickman to push the box up the cliff, 5m distanced moved is parallel to the force, therefore there is work done of 400 J.
